Jason Joel, the co-owner of Mall of Georgia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Buford, Georgia, is getting really sick of people stealing cars off his lot. After the latest one was taken on Monday, he's offering a reward for its safe return, and even more if the info leads to a conviction.
Joel tells Jalopnik that around 2 a.m. on Monday, two men broke into the dealership in the 4300 block of Buford Drive and then made off with a silver 2012 Chrysler 300C SRT8, which he said stickers for about $39,000. He says they believe the thieves replaced the dealer tags with a Georgia license plate from an employee's car that says BFP-8610. A surveillance camera caught video of two men sneaking around the lot early that morning.
Joel told the Gwinnett Daily Post that stuff like this has happened before, with thieves sneaking onto the lot to steal wheels or tires. He has insurance, but he says the theft of the 300C was the last straw.
"I just got to a breaking point this time," Joel told CBS Atlanta. "I am tired of it. I am tired of calling my insurance company and saying, ‘Deal with it, and replace my car and write me a check.'"
He told the TV station he's not sure if the thieves used a key, but several other cars on the lot appeared to have been tampered with, meaning they may have stolen the car electronically.
So now he's offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to the safe return of the car, and a full $5,000 if that information leads to an arrest and conviction.
More surveillance video is available on the dealership's YouTube page. Come on, Jalops, let's see if we can bring this 300C back home where it belongs. There might be some cash in it for the person who does!
