Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what's going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

There you sit, still stuffed with turkey and turkey leftovers, in the barren, prostprandial somnoletic wasteland that is the country once known as America (#1!). You can barely lift the remote, let alone actually rise from the couch. So why not sit and watch some racing?

As this weekend does, technically, bring us into the depths of December, there's not a whole bunch of the live stuff going on. The replays we do have, however, seem to be masterfully curated.

First up is the Silk Way Rally, which is kind of like the famous Dakar Rally in that it has a lot of big trucks slogging through the ends of the Earth, but is unlike the Dakar Rally in that it is entirely run through Russia. This year's Silk Way Rally was run from Moscow to Astrakhan, a city world famous for its voting fraud in the last mayoral election, according to Wikipedia. I may have won my school's Geography Bee twice, my Astrakhan trivia is a bit rusty, so... sorry, I guess. According to Wikitravel, though, it does have one restaurant, so there's that.

Astrakhan natives, feel free to chime in with your local sights and sounds in the comments.

If road rallies through forested Russia aren't your thing, and you crave naught but sand and heat and sand, there's the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, which is another rally, but this time through the sands of the United Arab Emirates. Should be fun.

We've also got replays of Australian V8 Supercars and the FIA GT Series, and those are always swell. Seriously, some of the best racing around.

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what's going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

Alright you crazed, petrol-headed, racing-obsessed Jalops. I'll be straight with you about this weekend. There's not much going on.

In the last weekend before Thanksgiving, we're mired in random replays and old episodes of Pawnstars where Corey and the other fat one are still fat. Yeah, it's that bad.

But! There's hope!

We still have one Formula One race still in our systems. One last race, to prove who is the best, who can win the championship, who can take it all. (Hint: It's Sebastian Vettel. And Fernando Alonso's clinched second place as well.) Yes, the championship is as good as over, and yes all the teams have already been working on the 2014 F1 season's cars for years now, but the Brazilian Grand Prix is a classic race.

Not only are Brazilians just F1-crazy, but Interlagos is a pretty good track. Throw in the first real threat of real rain all season, and we potentially have some interesting stuff on our hands.

Rain always separates the good drivers from the great drivers, and Ayrton Senna was the master of it. Last year's Brazilian Grand Prix was marred by rain, and 2009 World Champion Jenson Button managed to take the win. His car isn't as competitive this year, but who knows what can happen? It's the end of the season, rain is falling, all the campers are going home, Marcine, the cute girl you've been eyeing since color war ended is finally going back to New Jersey... anything is possible, is what I'm saying. Of course, while we normally reserve the Weekend Motorsports Roundup to what's showing here in the USA, it's always open to everyone who loves racing. With that being said, I want to extend a special invitation who feels like there's some motorsports going on around the world that we might be missing. Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

There are two races this weekend. Yes, all of TWO races. You may be sitting there, in your jammies, as it is Saturday morning and you don't feel like actually getting up yet because that would be silly, thinking "two races?! TWO RACES?! What in Sam Hill am I supposed to do with two races?" Well, baby, these are two races you're not going to want to miss.

The first race is, of course, the finale of the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide seasons, both held at the Homestead-Miami Speedway down in the beautiful, wonderful state of Florida. Florida is known and beloved throughout the world, so I'm not going to tell you much more about it, but Homestead itself is an interesting track. It originally attracted a bit of guff for being "slow" and "boring," two words which should never go with the word "racing," but that was the result of trying to ape Indy. In the past decade or so, though, they've quit all that aping-Indy business, curving out the squared-off corners and adding some sweet little banking to the curves. Now everyone likes it. Go figure.

The other big race is, of course, the Formula One United States Grand Prix. I love this race. Really, I do, and not just because it's a fancy new track and you get to see Texas Governor Rick Perry awkwardly jumping out of McLarens while wearing hipster glasses. And no, it's not just because they give the winner a big silly ill-fitting cowboy hat. And no, it's not just because you can take a lap of the track on Google Maps. And no, it's not just because we've decided to unilaterally name all the corners.

Okay, maybe it is partially because we're naming all the corners.

The main reason I love this track is because it's such a uniquely American experience in Formula One. Massive quantities of beer mixed with massive quantities of hot dogs that have been covered in cornmeal and deep-fried is a Beautiful Thing. Last year's driver's parade featured ridiculously un-F1 American Iron. It's an American driver on an American track. It's a microscope.

It is red, white, and beautiful, beautiful blue in a sport that has been severely lacking those colors (I hear they don't run). Seriously, the last time an American won an F1 race was in 1978. So, yay, America.

It also doesn't hurt that it's one of the few F1 races that gets ridiculous amounts of coverage. So there's that, too.

The racing year is winding down, and with it comes the last gasps of winning speed and glorious dreams. Championships may look all wrapped up, but in many series, they're still undecided.

For those fans of racing with twisty bits, we're running a bit lean this weekend. MotoGP's final race in Valencia, Spain, is your main option, and though two wheels may be bad and four wheels may be better, it's still fantastic competition with possibly even more danger than your run-of-the-mill Formula One race. So you should still tune in.

Over here in the States we've mostly got a mixture of NASCAR and drag racing, with the stock car traveling circus making another stop just outside of Phoenix. Jalopnik contributor and all-around nice guy Parker Kligerman will be charging around the track in the Nationwide Series after last week's Sprint Cup debut, where he finished in the top 20 in his first race. In a five year old car.

Not a bad start, then. And definitely not a bad way to get us through the end of the year.

Racing, for all of its foibles, is one of the insaner sports. Drivers routinely risk life and limb in the ways that other professional athletes do not. Yes, football is full of concussions, and yes, hockey players get slashed every now and then, but only in racing is the risk of death not some far-off specter in the back of one's mind. But racing is pretty crazy for another reason.

Only in racing can an athlete win the championship before it's even over. Think about how crazy that is. What if the NHL handed the Stanley Cup over to the New York Islanders (because they are the greatest team of all time ever and forever) before anyone hit the playoffs?

That's what we've got now in Formula One. A nice young German man named Sebastian Vettel has already wrapped up the title, and there are still races on the calendar. The race I'm thinking of specifically is this week's stop in Abu Dhabi. So what now?

Well, there are still plenty of drivers on the grid. And while second place is first of all the losers, all those other guys still want jobs next year. And when you're competing for a job in one of the most competitive fields on earth, you can bet your bottom dollar that they'll still be racing.

The other big news for this weekend is the NASCAR Sprint Cup debut of rally car designer, racer, and, most important of all, Jalopnik Contributor Parker Kligerman. Parker's already proven he's got the chops teaching us how to go fast, and with the wings of angels behind him (read: los Jalops) there's no way he can't take the checkered flag and all the glory. We're rooting for you, Parker.

Just when you think that it's late October and every single person you know who you hate is getting fat on pumpkin spice lattés because it's slightly chillier than last week and that's some sort of terrible excuse but you know they'll all take advantage of it anyway and you might as well go hibernate because what else is going on certainly not racing, you're proven wrong. We've got a fantastic slate of racing this week, in more and better varieties than you can imagine.

The big heavy hitter this weekend is the Indian Grand Prix. And you better savor it, because it may be the last one for awhile. Sure, it's supposed to be back in 2015, but that's as strong a promise as one from the 2000 Bush presidential campaign and hey, you want to be able to tell your kids you saw Kimi Raikkonen blast through an Indian circuit. Sebastian Vettel has been dominating, as usual, so we'll see if something else happens.

We've also got MotoGP lined up at the Motegi circuit, although as of now the entire race has been put in jeopardy by massive rains. "So what," you claim, "I've ridden my bike in torrential downpours and all I broke was three legs and an arm!" Apparently the issue is that they're worried they won't be able to get the medical helicopter off the ground. And no chopper, no race. So we'll be keeping an eye out for that one as well.

And while of course we've got NASCAR this weekend, I want to take a special minute to point out that for the first time in a while, we've got drag boat racing. Yes, drag racing, with boats. Should be awesome, though you'd be hard pressed to get me in one of those.

Who am I kidding, I'd kill to go for a ride in one of those.

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

First off we should start out this weekend's edition of WMR with a big tip of our collective hat and a hearty "godspeed" once more to NASCAR racer and fellow Jalop Parker Kligerman, who announced this week that he's getting a ride at the pinnacle of the sport in the Sprint Cup series. Parker is almost certainly most famously known for slapping a Jalopnik sticker on his car, which is probably why they allowed him to race in the first place, and for also being blazingly fast. But probably the sticker thing.

Parker starts with Swan Racing on November 3rd, and we wish him the best of luck. Though he may not even need it this weekend, as he's already qualified in the Top 5 at Talladega in the Truck Series, where he won his first race last year.

But as Parker continues his journey on the road to being one successful Jalop, we must remember that this weekend another journey comes to a close. That's right, we're talking about the venerated American Le Mans Series. This weekend is 16th and final Petit Le Mans of ALMS, as the series closes out before its merger with the Rolex Grand Am Series to form United SportsCar Racing.

We'll be having a bit more of a tribute to the series later in the day, but as the series bows out you should make sure to watch. It's been a wonderful 16 years, and we'll truly miss it.

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

As we move deeper into October, when the leaves turn yellow, then orange, then brown, and eventually whither, fall off, and die, and other poetic things happen, we have but one solace to sustain us in these blustery days. Yes, that solace is, as always, racing. And though there may not be a lot of racing this time of year in terms of quantity, there is a virtual feast of quality abounding.

The big ticket item this week is, of course, the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix, and it remains to be seen whether or not Red Bull will come clean about the fascinating hybrid traction control system it may or may not be using in its employ, or whether or not one of the other drivers will say something about it.

My bet is "no."

The Suzuka Circuit should offer some prime examples for us to see it in action, however, as those achingly long straights tend to be bounded my sharp braking and acceleration zones. If we see Vettel rocketing away from the corners the way we've seen previously, then it may provide more circumstantial evidence to what others have said already. Either that or may provide evidence for the man with the world's most delicate ankle control. Either one.

Formula DRIFT is also make an uncommon-but-not-unappreciated stop on our weekend TV viewing schedule, and where F1 is all about precision and high rates of speed, drifting is all about style. Think of it as a smoky chaser to your shot of high technology.

The Bathurst 1000, which is an Australian racing and drinking event, is also this weekend, but as of yet a US listing for the race is still elusive. In case you're not aware of the Bathurst, it is the premier event of the Australian V8 Supercars circuit, and it is incredible. Pitting Holdens against Fords (and their fans), it provides a traditional outlet for Aussies to choose sides and root for their favorites. And punch each other in the face, if they're nearing the 24-can booze limit. Joining the traditional manufacturers this year will be Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo as well, so it adds an interesting dynamic to the normal scheme of things. We'll let you know if anything pops up.

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

We're deep in the home stretch of the Formula One season, with races coming (relatively) rapid fire at an every-other-week pace. This week's race will be the fourth Korean Grand Prix, which will be held in Korea this year. Tropical Storm Fitow is not fixing to make a direct hit over the circuit in Yeongam, though it does bring the threat of rain with it.

That may not sound like such a big deal, as F1 cars have wet tires just for that reason, but the last time it rained at the track was at Korea's inaugural race in 2010. The rain was so torrential then that it even forced reigning F1 champion and current racing ubermench Sebastian Vettel to retire:

Then again, Sebastian Vettel sounds quite intent on staying dry this time around.

In non-F1 related events, the American Le Mans Series continues its farewell tour with a stop at Virginia International Raceway, and IndyCar will pound around in two races at a street circuit in Houston. I do love me some street circuit racing, as they tend to be incredibly unpredictable.

NASCAR is in Kansas this week, and you should all make sure to cheer on your favorite stars named Parker Kligerman, who is One of Us.

Last weekend was all about the big names in Formula One getting their fancy rides on their fancy taxis, but this weekend should be a bit different. This weekend is about giving dirt its time to shine.

Yes, I know, something about dirty and shining doesn't make much sense, but we're talking about Off Road Racing, on both trucks and bikes. The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series is making an appearance on CBS, which is a television channel, and the Motocross des Nations, which is kind of like the World Series of motocross, with other countries involved as well, so it makes it more like the Olympics of motocross, but we like to call it the World Series even though it's only teams in America, so it's really nothing like the World Series, so let's just go with Olympics.

And if you have no idea what I'm talking about at all, this is what Off Road Racing looks like:

Yes. Awesome.

If you truly insist upon racing that takes place on roads that are paved with asphalt, you can always cheer on friend of Jalopnik, contributor, and lifesaver-through-horsepower Parker Klingerman in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. And, if Sir insists upon twisty bits in their racing as well, there's DTM in the Netherlands and the Rolex Sports Car Championship Weekend.

Even though this weekend may not have the big names or big circus of F1, it still looks to be absolutely fantastic.

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

We're just now coming off the high that was the Jalopnik Film Festival, and as such you're probably all tired from enjoying so much movies and awesomeness, we should take a weekend to rest and relax. And there's no better way to do that than with some racing, especially as we've got plenty, between NASCAR, ALMS, and Formula One.

In NASCAR, we're still cheering on awesome Jalopnik contributor Parker Kligerman in the Nationwide Series, which is Kentucky this week. Let's hope he hasn't sampled too much of the Bourbon the night before (it's very tempting, I know). The American Le Mans Series returns to the Circuit of the Americas, where friend of Jalopnik and all-around dream of a racer Patrick Dempsey should be tearing up the track.

The F1 circus makes a stop at Singapore this time, and, like Monaco, the race takes place on a street circuit. Street circuits tend to be twisty, windy affairs, and the Marina Bay course looks to be no different. A lot of great racing takes place in tight corners, so make sure you don't miss it.

As this is a holiday weekend throughout some places in the world, we're a bit light on the zooming around with the cars and the race tracks over these next two days. That being said, there's still MotoGP, DTM, and, of course NASCAR.

NASCAR's Nationwide Series gets a special shoutout from WMR this week, owing to our newest contributor, Parker Klingerman, and his newest, bestest, and all-around fantasticest (those are all words now, I decided) Jalopnik racing livery. Sure, it's just a sticker on the side, but it's a beautiful sticker, and the Jalopnik livery will surely go down in history as one of the greats alongside Gulf and Alitalia. Oh yeah, I'm calling that one now.

Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

We're in that final, home stretch of the year that features some of the best racing. Temperatures throughout much of the Northern Hemisphere are beginning to cool, which enables many engines to put out more power, but this soon-to-be-fall season actually provides great competition for another reason. Towards the end of the season, the stakes are higher. Dreams have already well on their way to dashing or fulfillment, and everyone now has a good idea of where they stand. Every driver knows exactly how many points they need to move up a place, or how many they can bear to lose out on before they fall from grace.

The two races that will be foremost on the minds of racing fans, at least here in the United States, are the Formula One Italian Grand Prix at Monza and the World Touring Car Championship Race at Sonoma. The latter, because the WTCC is great racing and also because this time around it will actually be watcheable on your TV, right here in the US on CBSSN. Now, I know that doesn't sound like it's on a big channel, but supposedly CBSSN reaches 99,000,000 around the country, so at least some of you can watch it. The former, because Monza is historically the fastest F1 race, and speed, for lack of a better word, is good.

F1 tends to thrive when its racers are forced to rely on mechanical rather than aerodynamic grip, and since the track is meant to be run flat-out for much of the circuit, the cars will almost certainly be running on very-low-downforce settings. That means we may be seeing the occasional dash of opposite coming through the corners. If you know you're going to lose anyway, why not do it with some style, powersliding through each apex?

This weekend we celebrate our Labors, and yet we'll probably spend the whole thing watching other people labor away on the racetrack for our entertainment. Funny how that works, right? Well who cares, because a) I will never feel bad for a racing driver when they say they have to go to work because that line of work is awesome, and b) have you seen this weekend's lineup? We've got racing galore!

We start the weekend off right with some MotoGP and plenty of NASCAR, but for me the real star this weekend is America's beloved Second City (er, or maybe seventh or eighth...), Baltimore. Fun fact! I spent a summer living as a youth aboard the USCGC Taney, which is the last ship still floating that fought in the attack on Pearl Harbor, and is now docked in the historic Baltimore Inner Harbor. Okay, so it's not exactly the sort of fun fact you'd bring up at parties because why are you randomly bringing up some guy at parties? I mean, go ahead, bring up Jalopnik at parties yes, that is a good idea, but my childhood summer misadventures?

Anyways, all this has a point, in that this weekend we have the Baltimore Grand Prix, which not only features the wonderful Baltimore Inner Harbor quite thoroughly, but brings us the unique delight of actually featuring two major racing series all in one location on one race weekend. Both the American Le Mans Series and IndyCar are making stops at the Baltimore Street Circuit this weekend, and they're both fixing to feature some fantastic racing.

The Baltimore Grand Prix is also fixing to be the last street circuit race of ALMS as we know it, before it combines with the Rolex Grand-Am series to become USCR. I'm sure USCR will come to be known as a great race series in its own right, but for now we witness the end of an era. What better way to celebrate ALMS on its final tour than to watch some street circuit racing with a beautiful backdrop? With settings like that, it makes the whole thing just so bittersweet.
