FACT: Your truck is a pussy compared to the 2015 GMC Sierra HD. Not only does the heavy duty version of the new Sierra look like a freight train capable of hauling a small moon, it also pulls like one thanks to its monstrous diesel engine.
Today at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas — arguably the most delicious auto show in the world if fried alligator is your thing — General Motors unveiled the heavy duty variants on the 2015 GMC Sierra and 2015 Chevrolet Silverado. Far and away my favorite is this one, the Sierra Denali HD, which is one of the meanest-looking things I have ever seen.
Okay, so it looks badass. But can it truck? Giiiiirl, you better believe it can truck! The Sierra HD models can carry a maximum payload of 7,374 pounds and tow up to 19,600 pounds — 23,200 pounds with a fifth wheel. GMC says all of those ratings are best in the segment.
Engine choices for the HD models include a 6.0-liter gasoline V8 with 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. But even more truck-tacular is the Duramax 6.6-liter diesel with 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque.
And for the wealthy rancher who wants a touch of luxury when he's hauling beached whales back into the sea, the Denali has a soft-touch instrument panel trim, an 8-inch display screen with navigation and other goodies, heated and cooled leather seats, and five standard USB ports.
It sounds fantastic. The want is strong with this one.
