Volkswagen's invite-only party the night before the Geneva Motor Show opens is a preview of what you can expect from all the brand's under VW's umbrella. Cars, lots of dubstep and films about adventurous men, relaxed retirees and expensive women for those Bentley customers out there. Here's all I've seen.
Audi:
The new TT
What is it? The third generation of Audi's most affordable sports car.
The best thing about it?
It remains practical...
...and very nice inside.
The worst thing about it?
Looks just like the old one.
The R18 e-tron Quattro
What is it? Audi's diesel-hybrid Le Mans prototype for 2014.
The best thing about it?
It lets you peek into the future.
The worst thing about it?
It's predecessors took care of the French competition for good.
Audi A3 e-tron
What is it? It's a plug-in hybrid A3 just like the Golf GTE.
The best thing about it?
It's most likely coming to the US.
The worst thing about it?
I'm all g-tron by now.
Skoda:
VisionC Concept
What is it? A four-door gran coupe concept from VW's best brand.
The best thing about it?
The almost Lamborghini-like mirror and the crystals and snowflakes everywhere.
The worst thing about it?
It's an Audi alright.
Lamborghini:
The Huracan
The best thing about it?
It looks fantastic in yellow and you know how to build one.
The worst thing about it?
The glass is an optional extra.
Seat:
The Leon Cupra R
What is it? VW's Alfa Romeo wannabe presenting a four-door hatchback with 280 horsepower.
The best thing about it?
Four doors and 280 horsepower.
The worst thing about it?
Most of you can't buy the damn thing.
Bentley:
The new GTSpeed
What is it? Bentley's most powerful convertible
The best thing about it?
Biturbo W12.
The worst thing about it?
Too much speed.
Bugatti:
Veyron Vitesse Rembrandt
What is it? Something they want to sell quickly.
The best thing about it?
The elephant in the room.
The worst thing about it?
We lost count of the special editions from Bugatti.
Porsche:
The 918 Spyder
What is it? Porsche's brand new hybrid supercar.
The best thing about it?
That paint job.
The worst thing about it?
There is a better hybrid supercar out there for the same money.
Volkswagen:
The T-ROC Concept
What is it? Another diesel-hybrid MQB concept just like the CrossBlue was.
The best thing about it?
They have the technology to build something like it.
The worst thing about it?
Targa or not, it remains a concept.
And this is why I had to leave after this point:
