By harnessing the miraculous power of SCIENCE, GM is able to turn their hulking land yacht of a muscle car into the Nürburgring-destroying, Porsche-eating Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. But it takes more than just power to humiliate the Germans. Even the bowtie has to get involved!
Chevrolet is touting the modified design of their bowtie logo on the Z/28, which they say helps cool the engine much better than the standard gold Chevy badge. During aerodynamics testing, one engineer noticed the bowtie was displacing air away from the radiator and not keeping the 500 horsepower LS7 as cool as it could be.
Their solution? A chrome bowtie with the center cut out. They call it the "flowtie," and while it seems like a simple and obvious answer, it's good enough to allow three additional cubic meters of air into the engine per minute. Chevy says dropped the temperatures of engine coolant and engine oil by 2 degrees Fahrenheit during track testing.
