I know of only one place in the world where gearheads hang out and try to street drift their Ladas directly in front of a police station. I am talking, of course, about Baku, Azerbaijan.
As you can see in the above video, this usually doesn't end well.
Here's another video of hoonage at 5 Mertebe, the square where all of this goes down. As you can see, there is a police station on the square, and a Lada gets chased by the cops. That's when a three-axle truck tries to drift right behind him. It's by far the dumbest thing I've seen on a public road.
I covered all this a while back, but I felt it was worth revisiting since Baku was in the news again today. It's been tied to an F1 race, given the growing economy and the FIA GT3 circuit in town.
Of course, Azeri hoonage isn't all about low-speed idiocy around 5 Mertebe. It's filled with the usual drifting BMWs and tuned AMGs you see all over the richer corners of the Post-Soviet East.
As always, never ever try to do this yourself. What people can get away with in Azerbaijan is very much not what people can pull off in the rest of the world. You'd be wise to keep your antics away from other drivers, particularly cop cars.
Only In Azerbaijan Will Idiots Hoon In Front Of A Police Station
