Today I learned that in the early to late 2000s, a number of Cadillacs were built in Kaliningrad, Russia. Take that, smoldering embers of Soviet Russia.

All the Russian Cadillacs were built from complete-knock-down kits in the same Kaliningrad factory Avtotor. They've made everything from BMWs to Hummers to Cherys, and their GM wing is pictured below. Here's their website.

As far as Cadillacs are concerned, they made the SRX there (from 2004-2010), along with the STS (from at least 2005 to at least 2010), the Saab-based BLS (2009-2010), the Escalade (up until 2010), and the current CTS (at least 2005-2013). Oddly, they called the Escalade the DUU over there. As far as I can tell, none of these cars ever came Stateside.

If this isn't a symbolic manifestation of the conquering power of capitalism over communism, and also globalism over nationalism, I don't know what is.
