You knew this was coming. Last night on "Conan," O'Brien presented an "extended cut" of Bob Dylan's Chrysler 200 Super Bowl ad, with a usual bit of sly commentary that pokes some holes in the "America's Import" balloon.
Of course you know in the original ad, Dylan says "let Germany brew your beer, let Switzerland make your watch, let Asia assemble your phone." While watchmakers and beer breweries in Michigan seethe over those first two sentiments, O'Brien went for the kill.
"Let France make your water, let Denmark make your cheese... let Mexico make your pinata... let Japan produce your animated torture porn," the faux-Dylan says. "We will build your car, at least the parts that aren't made in Canada or Mexico." Ouch.
I don't have a breakdown of all the 200's parts, but if you were to get the V6 with the 3.6L engine, that'd be the most 'Merican 200 of the two. The 3.6L is made here in Michigan, while the four-cylinder 2.4L is made in Mexico. And while the 200 itself is assembled in Sterling Heights north of Detroit, Chrysler's other two models — the 300 and Town & Country — are assembled in Mexico.
Can't be as bad as saying how much the Durango sucks, right?
