It's easy to forget the glorious rear-engined Alpine A110, something like a French cross between a Porsche and a Lotus. You might think it's too low, to pretty for rallying, but this 1971 film for the Rallye Monte Carlo might change your mind.
The last 'sports car' I can think of that competed in top level rallying was the Toyota Celica GT-Four that got Toyota banned from WRC competition back in 1995. It's a bit of a shame. Today's hatchbacks are wonderful and affordable, but they're missing some of the grace these Alpines have in spades.
