The most important Corvette ever is up for auction this month

Get your rich uncle good and hyped because you'll need him to purchase arguably the most important Corvette ever built. The "Real McCoy" 1956 Corvette SR Prototype will roll across the auction block on January 25th at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, FL.

And just why is this the most important Corvette ever? Because without it there probably wouldn't have been any more Corvettes. Ever. The early Vettes were pretty enough, but not quite the powerful sports cars Chevrolet needed to throttle the newly launched Ford Thunderbird or anything coming out of Europe. Thankfully, Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Arkus Duntov came to the rescue.

He wrote a letter to the Top Brass and begged them not to kill the car, citing how giving Ford the market share would be a colossal mistake. The big-wigs listened, and Duntov was allowed to accelerate the quest to make the Corvette a world-class sports car... and the "Real McCoy" was just that.

If you want pedigree, how about setting the two-way flying mile record at Daytona and then going to Sebring and kicking everyone's asses? The "Real McCoy" did it. The "Real McCoy" Corvette catapulted the brand into the sports car world, and on its shoulders the brand has survived and thrived for more than 60 years.

Also worth mentioning... This same auction will be your chance to buy one of the fastest Corvettes ever made and a whole other slew of famous Corvettes. If you're a rich Corvette lover, this has to feel like a dream come true.

In case you're wondering the auction estimate for this car... It's "Available upon request," which translates to a crap-ton.
