There's something about a total, uncontrolled fiasco that I really respect. Having things go wrong anyone can do. But a vast clusterfuck is a thing of beauty. Like how this woman hit two deer, then got dragged by her own out-of-control truck until a daring, level-headed cop saved her.
The elderly Jacksonville, Wyoming woman hit two deer, said to be a doe and a fawn, in her truck on the night of January 17. If you haven't had a good cry today, then really watch that cop's dash-cam video so you can see that the fawn appears to still be alive as its dead mother is dragged next to it.
After hitting the deer, the understandably shaken woman exited the truck to inspect the damage, but in her flustered state, neglected to put the truck in park and was being dragged by the truck as she desperately held onto the door and steering wheel.
Thinking quickly, Corp. Roger Schultz gassed the patrol car, zoomed past the truck, did what looks like a nice 70s-cop-show J-turn to block oncoming traffic, then grabbed the woman before she really got hurt.
The truck ended up stopping along the curb, the woman only suffered minor scrapes and scratches, and aside from a dead deer and many years of therapy for the fawn (or possibly the birth of crime-fighting Batdeer) everyone pulled out of the mess okay.
It's also worth noting just how calm and even-tempered the cop sounds when talking to the woman after what must have been a pretty harrowing experience. That's some fine police work, Corp. Schultz.
(Thanks, WyoJim!)
