Next Ferrari California Will Get Turbos, Raid Maserati's Parts Bin S

Time flies, doesn't it? The Ferrari California was first shown more than five years ago and since then, it's become a staple wherever there's a Saks Fifth Avenue. Ferrari doesn't let any of its cars get old anymore, so it's time for a new California.

Motor Trend's sources confirm that the new Ferrari California will have a twin-turbo V8 and be unveiled sometime next year. The turbo V8 is a big deal for two reasons. Ferrari doesn't do turbocharging very often in road cars – the last time was the F40 – and that means the engine size will shrink significantly from its current 4.3 liters. In fact, it'll be a 3.8-liter V8. That's the same size as the V8 in the new Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli.

Ferrari people are telling Motor Trend the California's new turbo-ed V8 will be made with "all-Ferrari components," but you can bet it'll make roughly the same 523 horses the Maserati motor does.

In rummaging around the Maserati box of parts, Ferrari is also likely to pull some important pieces for its baby of the lineup. Hopefully these include things like the Chrysler UConnect system, which means an easy-to-use navigation system in a sports car for once. Because who cares where switches come from? Things should just work.

The driver trying to find the closest Burberry store will thank you, Ferrari.
