The White House and the Capitol were locked down for some time today as a car chase ended in a shooting. The suspect—a female—was killed by Secret Service agents. An unharmed kid was in her car. Here's the complete timeline. [Updating]


2:26pm. Washington post reports that "officers with semi-automatic weapons were seen running for the exits on the first floor of the House side of the Capitol."



The Senate floor was still open and the Senate was on the floor, but police were in the hallways.



2:29pm. Chris Moody reports the shots came after a car chase.



Cops were chasing a black car near the Capitol building. They cornered the car and that's when shots rang out.



2:30pm. The photo at the top was tweeted by Kate Nocera—Buzzfeed reporter on Capitol Hill—who says she was "literally dragged in by cop as he heard shots fired come over the radio."


2:41pm. CNN says that one person may have be injured:



CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash reported that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said there was one person injured.

2:44pm. BBC confirms one person injured, according to Capitol police:



US Capitol Police said a police officer was injured, the Associated Press reported.



2:47pm. ABC7 says that the firing resulted from the chase of a car that "tried to ram White House gate."

2:54pm. Officials report that incident started at White House before moving to Capitol, says NBC (is that a metaphor of the lockdown?)

3:00pm. Reports of a female suspect shot dead on the scene, says ABC News.


3:07pm. NBC News confirms:



Female driver tried to ram her car into White House gate, Secret Service chased to Capitol Hill ensued, ended at Capitol Hill. Shots fired, unclear by who.



3:09pm. CNN tells Secret Service source's story:



Secret Service source: Vehicle hit security barrier at 15th and Pennsylvania; car chased from White House to Capitol Hill where shots fired.

3:26pm. NBC claims the kid has been taken to the hospital "not injured."


3:30pm. CNN reports the chain of events according to an intelligence source:



• Police stopped a black vehicle near the White House.

• Words were exchanged, the woman driver put the car in motion, chase began.

• The chase ended near Capitol Hill.

• The driver apparently was hit by gunfire.

• The vehicle also contained a child.

• The child appeared to be uninjured, according to the source and witnesses.



3:40pm. Officials say the incident is not related to terrorism, BBC reports.


4:03pm. The car is an Infiniti G-Series Coupe, as readers of Opposite Lock point out.
