If you're unfamiliar with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's rating scale it goes good-acceptable-marginal-poor. The 2014 Corolla only managed a marginal, which puts it above the Kia Forte, Kia Soul, and Nissan Sentra (which scored poor in this front overlap test) and level with the Chevy Cruze, Chevy Sonic, and VW Beetle (which scored marginal as well in this test). The full segment results are available

right here.

The IIHS points out that "structural performance was poor and the driver's space was seriously compromised by intruding structure." In short, if you get hit on the corner of your 2014 Corolla, there's a decent chance you'll get a leg injury, though the IIHS doesn't say how bad it would be.

The Corolla got 'goods' for all of the other, older crash tests. That's why the car still received a 2013 Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and it supports our claim that

the 'Rolla is perfect.

Maybe the reason why the 2014 Corolla only performed well in old crash tests is because

under the skin it's still mostly the same as the last model.
