Volvo's Latest Concept Sketches Are An Acid Trip In Car Design Form S

Aside from the occasional tire-smoking R or Polestar model, Volvo is about as conservative, buttoned-down and safe as car brands get. But it turns out they have a wild side too, especially when they invite artists to interpret the Volvo XC Coupe Concept. The results are... interesting.

And by "interesting," I mean "What a Volvo looks like when you've done a metric fuckton of peyote out in the Mexican desert." Not that I'm implying these artists were on peyote, or that I know what I'm talking about because I've done a bunch of peyote out in the Mexican desert. No, certainly not that last one. Not at all.

Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh yes. Volvo. They say they gave six acclaimed illustrators the chance to look at the XC Concept Coupe and interpret it any way they choose.

My favorite is that one on the far right above, the one that looks like one of the more formidable bosses from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. That one was done by acclaimed death metal album cover artist Mark Riddick. It's also what my new chest tattoo is going to look like.

I have to say that most of these look pretty interesting, and I give kudos to Volvo for letting their hair down a bit. If there was ever a brand that needed some psychedelic drugs, it's Volvo.

Expect the XC Coupe Concept at the Detroit Auto Show, where it probably won't look like a floating sack of human entrails.
