Ford invited Gail Wise — the first person to own a 1964 Ford Mustang — and her husband, Tom, to the unveiling of the 2015 Ford Mustang here in Dearborn. That's her up above with COO Mark Fields. When I talked to the lovely couple, Tom said he liked the new Mustang, but also wants a Lincoln Town Car.
These days, the Wises still own their baby-blue Mustang and show it at car shows, but they say it's harder to get in and out of with old age. Tom Wise says he's "looking for a Lincoln Town Car," but Ford doesn't make that anymore. So they've settled with a 2013 Ford Escape and a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox.
Of course talking about a Chevrolet product and a gaping hole in Lincoln's lineup made the Ford PR guy monitoring our conversation a little nervous, but who cares? Maybe he can get the message to the top that Lincoln needs to up their game a bit.
For the record, the Wises said they love the new Mustang. "It makes me feel like I'm 22 again," Gail Wise said. But they said they had seen images of it before the reveal. Hmm, how could that be?
