While the 2015 Ford Mustang will debut on Thursday, some more details of America's newest pony car are leaking out. One of those is that the version equipped with the 2.3 liter EcoBoost four should have more than 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.
According to auto spy photog and insider Chris Doane's Facebook, preliminary numbers for the 2.3-liter EcoBoost-powered Mustang, which they apparently aren't calling the SVO for some dumb reason that I don't quite understand, should have somewhere in the neighborhood of 305 to 315 horsepower and 300 to 310 pound feet of torque.
That sounds solid and true, since the same engine in the Lincoln MKC makes 275 horsepower and 300 pound feet of torque. Also, we must remember that about a decade ago, the Mustang SVT Cobra was making 320 horsepower from a 4.6 liter V8.
So, half the displacement, same power. Amazing how much we're still squeezing out of the internal combustion engine. We'll see the whole Mustang on Thursday.
