Once again, racing drivers who cut their teeth on Gran Turismo's GT Academy have shown how much ass they can kick when they swap the PlayStation controller for a steering wheel. An all-gamer team took the podium at this weekend's Spa 24 Hours.
The team of Lucas Ordoñez, Jann Mardenborough, Wolfgang Reip and Peter Pyzera finished in third place in the Pro-Am class at Spa, and also finished seventh overall in their No.35 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.
Nissan reports that it was a hard-fought finish for the team. The No.32 G-Drive liveried Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 crashed out during the first hour of the race, and a "stroke of bad luck" meant the No. 35 car had to come back from being three laps behind due to an ill-timed brake change.
It's hardly the first time that drivers from GT Academy, which puts high-level Gran Turismo players in the cockpits of real race cars, have shown that they're not to be taken lightly. Earlier this year the British GT Championship decided they're too good to fit into the pro driver/gentleman driver setup.
