After leaving others to continue their groundbreaking Deltawing project, Nissan has turned its attention towards building the world's fastest "Zero Emission On Demand Race Car" for Le Mans. And they just started putting it together...
The Nissan Leaf Nismo race car might be a lot of fun, but in order to be competitive at Le Mans, you need a bit more punch. There are signs that Nismo/Nissan knows what they're doing when it comes to fast moving objects. Like the fact that they want to build fast road cars together with the Williams F1 Team.
Now, the Deltawing might be out of Nissan's jurisdiction, but the ZEOD RC story is only beginning, with a massive carbon tub waiting to get filled with technology:
But Le Mans will only be the first step. With Lord Paul Drayson recently setting a new FIA land speed record for electric vehicles under 1000kg, Nissan now has a new benchmark to aim for. As Nissan's Director of Motorsport Innovation, Ben Bowlby said in their release:
While we're aiming to reach 300km/h (186mph) under electric power at Le Mans, the Nissan ZEOD RC certainly has the capability to go faster than that in a land speed record configuration situation.
