Which car would win a quarter-mile drag race, a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray or the Tesla Model S? DragTimes, in a bout of scientific inquiry, had to find out.

Just in case you're wondering, the contestant on the left is the 85-kWh Performance version of the pure-electric sedan, while the contestant on the right is a Z51 Stingray with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Stingray with the Z51 package makes 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, which is good for a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a quarter mile in 12. It weighs in at a fleeting 3,298 pounds for a pounds-per-pony ratio of 7.17.

Meanwhile, the Tesla Model S Performance makes 416 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque from zero rpm. Tesla says the model S can sprint to 60 in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 130 mph. It weighs in at a slightly heavier 4,647 pounds for a PPP ratio of 11.17.

Their performance stats are closer than you'd think, but we haven't seen a matchup between the two at an actual drag strip until now. You've got to hand it to the Tesla Model S—let's not forget that a four-door sedan is taking on a modern muscle car icon here, and the Tesla's effortless takeoff seems almost supernatural. No noise, no drama and no shifting.

Still, we know in which car we'd rather be in when this of showdown was taking place: the one with the better soundtrack.
